West Wall Sneakers By Frank Rojas Art 247

My name is Frank Rojas

For my public-art project, I chose to work on the Creative Arts Building .

I set out to ”culturally diversify” the building’s west-wall with a personal representational sample of the many different people that I’ve encountered here on campus

My technique heavily relied on the use of the transform tool which combined with the opacity option to test various levels transparency to aid in adding the realism of preexisting artwork to the wall. There was also much time given using the eraser tool to bring out the detailed object such as: (stairs, handrail and rail-strands).

As a representational piece- I believe this work best aligns with that of artist Barbara Kruger who often used graphics and illustrations on large spaces to demonstrate how are lives are both interconnected yet culturally inflicted.

The sneakers/colors/flags are positioned in an aesthetic manner not only to provide appealing composition to the wall as a whole- but also to give the feeling that the sneakers are motion. It could be said that as students we are in motion, as global representatives, with a shared mission/goals with no barriers.
