My proposal inspiration mostly came from Alexis Smith with her creation of the "snake path". I loved the way she brought it to life by having the serpent wrapping around like it was on a tree limb. When I was looking at the clock tower I had a vision of walking under the Oceanside pier. Years ago when I took a photography class, I took a picture underneath the pier because people usual take pictures from above and I wanted a different viewpoint. So my photography also had an impact on my idea for this proposal. I think that with our busy lives we forget to stop and enjoy life even just for a moment. We also take for granted that we have the ocean right here, within minutes from our homes. By having a symbol like the Oceanside pier mural on the clock tower not only will give people a different perspective, but it'll also remind us to slow down a bit and cherish the simple things in life.

ReplyDeleteAt first glance, I immediately thought of the Oceanside pier too! The idea of capturing the image from below and dimension of the photograph made me feel I was really walking through the pier. I can appreciate your comment about slowing down to enjoy beauty, nature and simple things.

Yeah I could see the pier within the structure. One thing that could bring this all out would be by adding like a person running on what would be the actual top of the pier- (by the clock). Or even a sun set around the same area. But I enjoy the way it give it a feeling of "depth" almost as if i walk through- I would actually be walking underneath the pier. Very nice work Summer.

ReplyDeleteI like the use of the starfish for the base of the pier. I can imagine myself walking under that tower and taking a deep ocean filled breath.
