My Proposal art piece for MiraCosta College is called, brothers and sisters live on. It's basically two photos placed together to represent a mural for the Veterans. I feel it has attributes of Terry Allen by having serious motives behind this piece of art, and Michael Asher when he says no art object has a universal meaning. The first photo I choose was a picture of a tree, which was taken in Charleston, South Carolina. This tree is beautiful and large with long strong branches which spew out in all different directions. Trees such as these don't grow overnight, but many centuries. They hold many memories of olden times which fit my vision. The second photo I chose was a group of soldiers, the picture was taken in Washington DC at the Vietnam Memorial. I used a clipping mask to make it appear they were spirits in front of the tree.
The purpose for this was both geared toward support for our Veterans, and giving students a look at our history. MiraCosta College is located in a large military community. I feel this mural would male people proud when they look at it. I also want Veterans to feel comfortable when taking the leap forward and continuing their education. It isn't easy transitioning from military life to being a civilian again. When they reflect on this mural I want them to think these military men are saying, we had goal, dreams and we live on through your remembrance. We often talked and reminisced about being home and the dreams we had after serving our country. Let us live through your accomplishments. This would improve the campus. -Susan Pastoriza
I like how it looks like the grass and the pathway continue into the painting. it has a great 3D looking effect!

It would probably be a good feeling for veterans to see this artwork on the wall. I like how they are shimmery like a ghost or a dream.

I too like the ghostlike quality of the figures. - Ginni Kitchen
ReplyDeleteThe figures look so real, like they're coming out of the wall. Very cool.

Really like it. I feel like your vision as you describe it comes alive in this piece with the tree and ghost like soldiers blending beautifully.

This is really deep and I think it means a lot to anyone who has family or friends in the military. It is also very important for soldiers to get back into civilian life, and I think this is inspiring to them. -Jessica Fuller
