Courtyard Silhouettes - Youness Scally

The public art piece that I propose to do is a courtyard silhouette mural in the center of one the buildings on the Mira Costa campus. This will add a light feeling of happiness and enchantment, like a warm summer day in a meadow, and will hopefully add to the enjoyment of learning on the campus and give students a short break from a stressful day of studying as they pass.

I was influenced by several of the artists who did public art on the UCSD campus, and especially took inspiration from Niki De Saint Phalle’s ‘Sun God’, whose colorful and vibrant towering statue brings a festival-like feeling to the campus.

This work should win the proposal because of its ability to enhance students learning experience and because it will add a bit of color and exhilaration to an otherwise dull Mira Costa campus.
