Fountain Art - Jennifer Lego
For my Public Art Project, I chose to beautify this large and empty space on campus. To offer students a place to reflect, relax and unwind in between classes, I would love to see a fountain in this space. Because we are a coastal community, I took my inspiration from the marine life artist Wyland. Not only does he create beautiful marine life art in multiple mediums, he has also transformed many public spaces all over the world with his 100 Whaling Walls. It is my vision, that a piece like this would not only bring tranquility to the campus, but also serve as a reminder to those who enjoyed its peacefulness, to be an advocate for helping preserve our local beaches and marine life. If a project like this were to come to life, I think it would be ideal to partner with one of the local organizations that protect our beaches like the Surfrider Foundation to promote this awareness. -Jennifer Lego

Cool idea. You did a good job matching the perspective of the stairs and the surrounding ledges.

Really nice concept. Excellent way to use the empty space in the area. The swirl effect in the water is awesome. Good opacity level on the water as well.

I enjoy Wyland's works too. I watched him paint the mural on the San Diego National Bank building eons ago, which was amazing. Your fountain is gorgeous, but I especially like the extra touches you've added in the starfish and the mosaic strip in ocean colors below them. - Ginni Kitchen
ReplyDeleteI love the stairs, not only because they look great artistically, but also because that would be a great place for students to sit and relax. Great job!

It is a beautiful fountain. It would be refreshing to get the cool breeze from the water when students sit on the steps that are around it.

Reaaaaaaally enjoy the idea of having an aquarium in the middle there. It'd be pretty cool to come out at break with a sandwich or coffee and just sit to stare at the fish. Great idea indeed.
