public art proposal by Mitsuru Shibata
Since the location I chose is building of the Art & Music building,I put a photo of jazz artist on the wall, the photo is actually from ipod's advertisement I found on the internet. I thought that the boring wall should be jazzed up by a colorful picture. This would motivate and inspire students.

Surf The Wall- Harry Hoffman
My Public Art Proposal is that some of the empty wall space around the campus could also be taken up with meaningless, fun iamges! I really like the idea of putting images on walls that represent the areas they are in but I also feel it is nice to have some that are just fun to look at too. Oceanside has a lot of people who enjoy surfing and I know they would enjoy this image. It is a simple photo on a simple wall and puts the viewer on the beach for just a moment.

Public Art Proposal by Michael Jennings
The MiraCosta campus would benefit greatly by exhibiting public art. Our school could make a name for itself by displaying sculptures and other works of art by emerging and well established artists. Both audience and artist alike can appreciate the wonderful setting and beautiful backdrops that our campus has to offer. This sculpture by Robert Verhees entitled Green Flame in particular accentuates the backdrop while still adding structure and style to an existing space. By placing a sculpture such as this on our campus MiraCosta would be joining an esteemed list of institutions that have invested in the arts. –Michael Jennings

My proposal inspiration mostly came from Alexis Smith with her creation of the "snake path". I loved the way she brought it to life by having the serpent wrapping around like it was on a tree limb. When I was looking at the clock tower I had a vision of walking under the Oceanside pier. Years ago when I took a photography class, I took a picture underneath the pier because people usual take pictures from above and I wanted a different viewpoint. So my photography also had an impact on my idea for this proposal. I think that with our busy lives we forget to stop and enjoy life even just for a moment. We also take for granted that we have the ocean right here, within minutes from our homes. By having a symbol like the Oceanside pier mural on the clock tower not only will give people a different perspective, but it'll also remind us to slow down a bit and cherish the simple things in life.

Healthy Body Healthy Mind-Simon Kaiser
I often saw Allen's talking trees, Irwin's V Forms and work from other artists in the Stuart Collection while visiting and exploring the UCSD campus when I was a teenager. I was happy to see that they have gotten recognition for their contribution to the campus. For the site of my public art piece I chose the Health classroom, which also serves as the Communication classroom at the San Elijo campus. I tried to put emphasis on the importance of satisfying the basic food groups, to help remind students of the importance of emotional and physical wellness. I think this piece of art goes well with the department of the school where it is located.-Simon Kaiser
Biotech (Futurism Approach) -John Boyd
My art installation is a mural dedicated to making for a more tasteful approach for developing a new Biotechnology building. I believe it will be in our best interest to stylize all departmental buildings no matter what department they may be. I chose a new look for a new Biotechnology because that genre of learning seems to be almost completely detached from art and style. By adding décor for each area of study I believe students will be more inspired to advance in each area of expertise. It’s in the schools interest to attract people to the many different divisions of academia and I’m here to deliver art installations that will do just that. To deliver a mural that I thought would serve this department well I used a design that involves hexagon vectors combined with an actual photo of a cyborg head I found on the internet. Above that I labeled the building using a type face called Harpoon which I have bought full rights to use. The building number was added to a vector smart object I created using the typeface GlacierD, another typeface I have bought rights to. I like to add vectors that have a flat feel to them with actual photographic images much like some of John Baldessari’s pieces but I used my vectors more in the background. John Baldessari is has been a teacher himself for most of his career and I’m sure he would agree that making this campus advertise each area of education would boost the overall moral of the students here at Mira Costa College. This is a necessity for this school’s continuity which is why I’m absolutely sure I should win this competition. -John Boyd
